THE POWER OF SIGN WORDS & THE FREEDOM TO MOVE AROUND AT EASE...!!
SIGN WORDS
We think so much for our comfort & accessibility. Even a day
without mobile phone or internet sounds like a nightmare to us. But think about
those who have never gone to school or those who could never access internet.
Do they stop living??? Do their
inability to read stop them entering into super markets, malls, airports,
railway stations, parks etc? No they are able to move freely whenever they
want, wherever they want. Who help them to enjoy this freedom???
THE SIGN WORDS
If we help our children to understand sign words from an early age,
they feel confident, can understand most of the things at public places, can
move freely & can avoid mishaps.
1. When we are at places
like library or hospital the child should be able to understand that these are
the places where we need to keep quiet.
Even at teaching institute when students are
studying or a day care centre when it's time for babies to sleep.
2. When we are going to
meet someone residing in a big complex/our own residential complex, there are
few common signs our children need to know.
3. At shopping mall,
supermarket or theater these are the common signs. If our children are well
versed with these signs, we don't need to worry.
4. At airport
5. At railway station
6. While camping/picnic/park/religious place/beach
7. Fire Alerts
8. Miscellaneous signs
There are lot many but once the habit of looking for sign words is inculcated, child will automatically keep on learning the newer words as & when comes across.
Few signs with similar meaning I have repeated. Child should be able to understand even if the sign differs slightly.
Our children are visual learners with strong ability to register the visual inputs. It would be difficult to modify a sign once registered. It is better to show different signs used having same meaning.
My daughter Palak learned many things because of her habit to look for the DOS & DON'TS, look for the SIGN BOARDS & follow the safety rules.
ENJOY...!
